DISCUSSION 7 DUE WEDNESDAY

Dr. PC Jun 24 at 9:31pm No unread replies. 20 20 replies.

Dear Students,

We are almost there. Please use this discussion to outline what you have left to do. I still have to work on my final draft for Friday (due before midnight). I also have a PowerPoint to put together for my presentation. All my interviews are done, but I will be adding each transcript as appendices to my final draft–though I expect a quote or two from the interviews will show up in my PowerPoint.

Preview the document

[Please note that the NACE post assessment will be part of Discussion 8, due Friday before midnight].

Please plan to share your presentation in our last Discussion, due FRIDAY. You should be able to attach documents or provide links to Prezi. Details on the Friday discussion will be published Thursday morning. Don’t forget to also post your presentation and your report final draft to Canvas so they can be graded.

For your presentations, I’m hoping they can serve as executive summaries of your research. No slide limit or Prezi minimums. It should have a balance of visuals (license free only) focus on the 3 or 4 areas of your Lit Review. I will post mine Thursday morning when I open up the last discussion–but you are welcome to email questions or concerns before then.

Also, since quiz 2 is open until Tuesday at 11:59pm, I won’t be able to grade the two “essay” questions about your Career Center interviews until Wednesday. Those two questions, worth 2 points each, are held out of your grade until the test is closed–just FYI.

Looking forward to what we are able to bring together, soon. 🙂

Things I have left to do to complete this class and end on a high note:

-Tweak and adjust my literary review paper and play with how I want to organize the format. I will be spending a lot of time in this area and utilizing a lot of my time to focus on citations.

-Interviews have been completed. I need to figure out how I want to incorporate them in my paper and where I want them inserted (beginning, middle, end, meshed in?)

-I need to put together my visual for my presentation (using Prezi to see if I can be more freelance with how I want the setup to be).  Also plan on using some quotes from my interviews to mesh into my Prezi.

-Discussion 8 and Post Assessment.  These are relatively smooth sailing and I won’t need to emphasize much time here as I do on my visual presentation and my paper.  Reply Reply to Comment

  • Hi Heather, I would recommend putting the entire transcript of each interview, questions and answers, into Appendices in the back of your paper. Then, whenever it seems fitting, add a quote to shore up what you’re talking about in your lit review. Remember that the interviews don’t show up in your reference list, so make the most of the best quotes right in the body of your paper. I would also appreciate it if you thought a particular quote was “pull quote worthy” for our resource guide–and just indicate that somehow (in red?) in your final draft. I’m going to use the ones I like anyway, but I also want to make sure that, if you have favorites, they get used in the resource guide. Si? Reply Reply to Comment

What I have left to do for this class:

  • I have 2/3 interviews completed, I am still waiting to hear back from my career center staff. Hopefully she emails me with her answers to the interview questions today.
  • I need to finish working on my final report paper and include the results of my interviews into that.
  • I have to put together my presentation on Powerpoint and figure out how exactly I want to format it for best results and clarity of my findings.
  • Discussion 8 and post assessment should be fairly easy, my main focus is finishing my report final and presentation.

I keep revising my final draft everyday to make it the WOW factor for those bonus points. So I will keep on working on that! I need to work on my final presentation now looking at the draft. I did my video presentation but I might make a power point so I can meet the guidelines. I thankfully got all my interviews in I got 2 from each just to have more material to work with.  Then I have my discussions and the post review. Staying busy as I’m sure the rest of you are as well!  Reply Reply to Comment Collapse Subdiscussion Kylie Maycumber

Things I need to do:
– My interviews have to be completed, which will be for tomorrow.
-I am hoping the interviews help tie the rest of my paper together- which I also need to write an abstract for as well as conclusion.
-I need to complete my Powerpoint. I am nervous about how I am going to set this up and what to include and what to leave out.

Kylie,

think of this as your PPT outline:

1. Title Page

2. Background/Context and/or NACE Definition Page

3. Lit Review Section A (bulleted highlights)

4. Lit Review Section B (bulleted highlights)

5. Lit Review Section C (bulleted highlights)

6. Good place for a great quote from your interviews (one required)

7. Resources related to your competency that you think future students would appreciate

That’s it. Seven slides. You can do more if you want, but that’s all that’s expected. Focus your time on the final draft of your report, but the PPT (at 20 points) can be a visual and fun project to play with while you’re finishing the report. They are both due Friday by 11:59pm.

PLEASE NOTE: I changed the deadline on the Presentation to Friday at 11:59pm. ONE OF YOU FABULOUS PEOPLES already has hers in Canvas by today. It’s already been graded, too. But, if you need until Friday to turn in a POLISHED version, I’m okay with that. Okay? Reply Reply to Comment Collapse Subdiscussion Dr. PC

Hello! Discussion 8 is already up and has links to some important resources (draft of PPT presentation with grading rubric on final slide, the post-assessment, and the rubric for the final report draft, etc.)

As far as today’s discussion, I’m glad to see you all have a good idea of what’s needed over the next 48+ hours. I’m going to spend tonight working on the draft of my presentation so I can share it before Friday in its final form. I’m also going to incorporate content from the interviews into my report final and work to polish that up. I also want to get the grading done now that Quiz 2 is behind us. Mostly, it’s just making sure I don’t neglect anything in this final phase. I hope you can all see the light at the end of the tunnel. 🙂

I will check back regularly between now and 9pm-ish as I get work done. You will likely see some grades coming at you from Canvas, just FYI, but if you have questions or concerns–either email to pchantrill@ewu.edu OR post a question in here. I’ll keep this discussion open until midnight. –pc Reply Reply to Comment

Jul 17, 2019 Jul 17 at 9:18pm Dr. PC,

I wanted to bring this to light in case any other student did a Prezi for their visual. I noticed that it will be difficult to submit a Prezi via canvas as you cannot submit it in the comments and you have to present a file in order to submit an assignment. Do you know how to save it as a file for submission? I’ve scoured the internet to find an answer and I’ve came up empty-handed.

What’s left for me wrapping up this course strong:

I need to finish my Lit review really focusing on my citations, I also want to go through and just clean up some of my paragraphs if I have time, I would love it to be proof read one more time by a friend.

For my interviews I need to go back and ask a one of my interviewees an additional question to make sure I understood correctly and am accurately representing her, in case I choose to incorporate that certainty statements.

Finally, I need to work on my Prezi. I am most excited to work on this part just because I love putting together presentation as for, I am a very visual learner! Reply Reply to Comment

 – The interviews will be the last bit to round out the final paper. Incorporating these quotes and ideas into the larger narrative will be the final step

 – My power point is shaping up to involve the use of video to create a mini-lecture.

 – I’m excited to see the those assessment questions again and see how my answers have evolved and changed. Reply Reply to Comment

  • Good Job, Tony! Remember, when you take the post assessment, take it without reviewing your pre assessment. I’m excited to see your results as well. 🙂   You can submit your post assessment any time. It’s linked above in the prompt for this discussion. 🙂 Edited by Dr. PC on Jul 18 at 8:53am Reply Reply to Comment

There are a few things i have left to do to be ready, one of them is to continue finishing my paper, and making some editing changes. The last one is to make my video presentation on my NACE competency. I have completed all of my interviews and i have a lot of good stuff i can use in both pieces, i just need to see what i can fit in these two pieces.  Reply Reply to Comment

Hi Tyler! I’m glad your interviews went so well and that you’ll be able to fit them into your presentation and paper. You can put the entire transcript for each interview at the end of your paper as “appendices.”

See this video for details on how to work with appendices in APA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeIW2Qn8Gsw (Links to an external site.) Reply
